“The sustenance of Konkani culture that was fostered by generations of Konkans is possible if the new generation nurtures it for posterity”.

Infant Mary Parish organized an Inter ward Voviyo Verse Competition for the parishioners at Infant Mary Church hall on August 21st 2022, to mark 30 years since Konkani was included as an official language in the Indian Constitution.

Mr. Joseph Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering. Parish Priest Fr. Ivan Dsouza invoked God's blessings.  Nine of the ten wards took part in the competition. The competition was tough with one group better than the other.  Mrs. Irine Rebello and Mrs. James Dsouza judged the competition. Mr. Joseph Mascarenhas compered the programme. Mr. Santhosh Veigas proposed the vote of thanks.

As a token of gratitude, a momento each was presented to the judges. Mrs. Irine Rebello spoke words of appreciation and in her message gave the importance and the ways in which the Voviyos and Verse need to be sung. Fr. Ivan Dsouza thanked everyone for their support and enthusiasm.

The names of the winners were announced thereafter. Vailankani ward won the first place. Carmel ward and St. Joseph ward won the second and third places respectively.

Fr. Patrick Lobo, Fr. Rayan Pinto, Br. Movin Pereira, Vice President Mr. Prakash Saldanha and Mrs. Irine Pinto were among those present. Mr. James Dsouza judged the competition.
